Hi. First off: I am impressed with the installation package! I tried KnoppMyth before this, and while it got me sort of running, as soon as I rebooted, it wouldn't even bring up mySql or the X window. With this distro, it is smooth sailing, and maybe, just maybe, I won't have to resort to buying Windows.
However things are not perfect, or indeed really use-able (but hopefully fixable). I have a custom built Epia-ML6000EA with the C3 600MHx Fanless processor. As you know, this board does not have a TV-Out jack. However I have a Hauppauge 350 with both the TV-in, and the TV-out jacks. With imedia mythtv installed, I can watch the tv on my computer screen no problem. There doesn't seem to be any sound with it coming out of the motherboard sound jack, but I am not terribly concerned just yet. I am not concerned because what I really want is for the sound and the picture to come out the tv-out jack located on the tuner card. But nothing is coming out of that jack - neither picture nor sound! How do I get this to happen? With the KnoppMyth distro, at least as long as I didn't reboot, the tv stuff showed up on the TV (and sadly the X stuff showed up on the computer screen). However I need both X and the TV stream to show up on the TV screen, since the monitor will eventually be removed from the system. I tried messing a bit with some setup screens, and it seemed like there was a place to check if I wanted TV output. However checking this box only meant that an error would occur when I tried to watch TV. My guess is that the TV-out jack of a PVR350 is not accounted for in your setup files?
A couple of more things: If I do need to mess with some scripts (and I am a Linux newbie to say the least), how do I do that? I have the distro on my harddrive, and mythtv automatically boots up, and there is no way to get out of it back to a command prompt. Do I need to use a knoppix rescue disk (which I have)?
Also, I am guessing if I ran mythtv all night (which I haven't just yet), the mythfilldatabase program would kick on eventually? Right now all the channels are "unknown," and there doesn't seem to be any manual way to run mythfilldatabase. If it kicks on eventually, then that is great, although I still don't know where I tell it where I live and who is my cable provider.
Also, it seems to want a mouse plugged in or it refuses to boot up. When it is all said and done, I do not want a monitor, keyboard or mouse hooked up on a day-to-day basis. I simply want the computer, a remote, and a tv screen.
Finally, when I had KnoppMyth running for that hour or so before it died, it had access to streaming music off of the internet, but I don't see that option in your distro. Did I just not explore fully, or is it missing? This is something I would really like.
Despite a few quibbles and one really big problem, I really love what you guys are doing. I think that this is an excellent use of Linux, and slick setups like these really make Linux workable for us normal, computer-challenged folks. It just amazes me!
