I'm thinking of replacing my X-Box that I use as a media center because the picture quality isn't very good on my new 720p TV.
Right now I use Ubuntu with a SMB share and the X-Box with XBox Media Player. My Ubuntu installation is simply a big file server and the X-Box is a video player. I don't record TV or play anything from a CD/DVD disk with this setup at all.
I looked at the new EPIA EX boards and they seem to have everything I need for a video player: component video, digital optical audio, MPEG-2/4 hardware decoding and inbuilt graphics. MythTV seems to be the right way to go as well - even though I don't want to record TV with it.
I'd like to create a silent PC: boots and runs Linux from a Flash memory device; no hard drive and minimal fans.
Is iMedia Linux the right choice for me?
Will iMedia Linux kill my Flash memory device by writing to it when it is running?
I assume I'd install it as a MythTV frontend and convert my Ubuntu server to a MythTV backend?
Any suggestions on a simple way to get a remote control into this system?
