iMediaLinux 5.0.1 does not support installation from USB CD??

I stuck my purchased 5.0.1 CD in my USB DVD-RW drive and everything started to boot (nice splash screen, by the way)....then, prior to anything useful happening, the installation crashed with a message about not being able to find /usr/bin/perl. This, apparently, is being caused by the USB modules failing to load correctly. I'm getting some sort of kernel module error messages and the cdrom is not being mounted, properly. Is this a known issue? It appears, from an earlier post that something similar was happening with an earlier version of the MythTV installation. Could that be related. Isn't this a fairly common method of installation? Why not just compile the necessary stuff, for this sort of installation, into the kernel? Cheers, - Brendan ===== UPDATE: Ok, uname is returning 2.4.33 from April of last year? Is this correct for the 5.0.1 version of iMediaLinux?

Hi, We are aware of this issue, all proper modules are compiled in kernel, but this is not a problem of support, more a Install CD boot problem. CDROM is not properly mounted in /cdrom directory. We will fix this in our next release. Till then there is a solution to this problem:
When Welcome screen appears go to console 2 ( ALT+F2 ) and manually mount cdrom
[sh: ~]# mount /dev/scd0 /cdrom
Then go back to console 1 ( ALT+F1 ) and continue install
PS. On 5.0.1 InstallCD Kernel should be 2.6.20

Actually, I was able to try the "mount /dev/scd0 /cdrom" thing. The issue was that the 3.0.0 distribution was sent to me, by mistake.

As you likely know, that version only supported installation from an IDE CDROM drive.

Cheers,

- Brendan

Looks like I have also been shipped an earlier version then 5.0.1 :-(

No wonder I spent half a day trying to work around the USB problems.

Quick update. I emailed iMedia customer-service when I realized I had been shipped the wrong CD version. By return of email they sent me a location to download version 5.0.1.

Thanks for the prompt service. This helps a lot.
